LaGrange Police have arrested a LaGrange woman on charges connected to the Aug. 28 murder of Kenneth Dial.

Jennifer McGowan, of LaGrange, was arrested on Friday and charged with felony murder and criminal attempted robbery for the deadly incident at Sunny Point Access.

Billy Joe Tyler III, 38, was previously charged with the murder after investigators determined that he allegedly shot and killed Dial during an apparent robbery.

Police say evidence from the subsequent investigation revealed that McGowan had been with Tyler during the night and at the time of the incident.

Police began investigating the incident around 8 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2023, when a 911 caller reported finding a person shot near the picnic area at the Sunny Point Lake Access on Mooty Bridge Road.

Officers arrived to find Dial suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was determined to be deceased at the scene. Police say the initial investigation revealed that the victim had come to the park to walk earlier in the morning, which he often did. An acquaintance of the victim later entered the park to walk with him and called 911 upon finding his body. Witnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots in the area around 30 minutes earlier.

Tyler was later arrested on that evening around 9 p.m. charged with the murder.

Police say the investigation determined that Tyler attempted to rob the victim before shooting him and fleeing the area.

According to police, Tyler had been on active felony probation for a robbery in the Metro Atlanta area at the time of his arrest.

This investigation remains active and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
