Elkins strikes out 11, Cavs sweep doubleheader against Redan on the road

The Callaway Cavaliers traveled on the road in need of a victory and came a way with two as they swept a doubleheader against Redan in dominant fashion.

 

GAME ONE:

Callaway – 17

Redan – 0

The first game lasted all of three innings as the Cavaliers controlled the game from the opening frame to the final one.

Callaway scored 13 runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third as well. 

Mackenzie Toney got the start on the mound, pitching a dominant two innings in which she struck out four batters. She also showed what she has from the plate as well, hitting a one-run triple in the first inning.

Layla Elkins pitched the final inning, striking out the side.

Brianna Patillo led the way for the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kyla Harris, Mckinley Milner, Savannah Rice, Ava Shuford, Madison Kemp, Kaitlyn Williams and Lakyn Gatens all had a hit apiece. Kemp led the team with three runs scored while Rice had a whopping five stolen bases. 

 

GAME TWO:

Callaway – 15

Redan – 0

The Cavaliers once again had no trouble against Redan. The team loaded up on offense with 13 runs in the first and two in the second and this game lasted just 2.5 innings. 

Elkins kept up her strong pitching from game one, throwing all three innings in this game, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced. 

Callaway’s offense was led by Harris in game two as the senior went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Bella Cleveland also had two hits in the game. 

Williams, Kemp, Milner, Rice, and Gatens all had a hit each. Williams scored three runs while Keira Trone led the team with two steals.

 

WHAT’S NEXT: 

 

Callaway (6-6) is second in region 5-2A with a record of 5-1. The Cavaliers will host a local tournament featuring LaGrange and Troup on Saturday before diving back into region play against Landmark Christian on the road next Tuesday.
