MSgt George Marlon Andrews, (Ret.), passed away on Sept. 14, 2023.
He was born in Cullman, Alabama on Dec. 17, 1929, to the late George and Mary Andrews.
George had a great love of people. He was lovingly dedicated to his family, friends, and his church.
He was married to his loving wife, Clara for over 65 years. He never met a stranger and always had a story to share. He had a great joy of life and a wonderful sense of humor.
He enjoyed spending his days outdoors and he was an excellent lifelong gardener.
Nothing pleased him more than the taste of a homegrown tomato or spicy jalapeño pepper. He was committed to his faith, never wanting to miss a Sunday service and served as deacon and shared his beautiful singing voice with the church choir.
He was an incredible grandfather and often filled the room with laughter or joy with a burst of old-time songs, jingles or a southern quip. Having served in engineer battalions in the army for 20 years, he rarely came across a problem he couldn’t solve.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Andrews is preceded in death by his son, Horace Andrews, and his siblings, Dallas Andrews, Albert Andrews, Lois Nell Tilson, Bonnie Keller, Frances “Frank” Wilson, Jim Andrews, Mary Ellen Andrews, and Harvey Andrews.
Mr. Andrews served our country with honor for 20 years in the United States Army earning his retirement. Following his years in the service, Mr. Andrews attended LaGrange College and Columbus Technical College. He then had a successful career with the Troup County Board of Education where he was the Director of Maintenance. Mr. Andrews was a member of the Troup County Masonic Lodge and was a member of Dunson Baptist Church.
MSgt George Marlon Andrews, (Ret.), is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clara Andrews; his children, Sharon Andrews, Donna Andrews, Ph.D. (Jonathan Gilbert), and Dawn Taylor (Dean); his brother, Martin Andrews; his grandchildren, Rachel Granade (Jess Riddle), Stephanie Granade (John Randolph), James “Chet” Sanders, III, Ph.D. (Liz Schwille, Ph.D.), Mitchell Granade, Ph.D. (Jennifer Turner); his great-grandchild, Gideon Randolph.
