Troup went to battle in a crucial region matchup against reigning 4A state runner-up Whitewater on Thursday, and the Tigers meant business pulling off the upset 2-1.

Junior Camdyn Bassett grounded out to send Kaitlyn Smalley home in the sixth inning for the Tigers second run of the game which proved to be decisive.

Bassett also pitched in the seventh and slammed the door on a Wildcat rally by getting the final two outs of the game even though Whitewater got the tying run on third with just one out.

Senior Madeira Sirmons,  in one of the most important games she has left as a Tiger, grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed fellow senior Haley Kitchens to score the opening run of the game in the sixth inning

The Tigers were able to add an additional run in that very same inning when Camdyn Bassett grounded out to send Kaitlyn Smalley home.

Anna Grace Keller got the start on the mound and considering the opponent, put together her most dominant pitching performance of the season. She pitched 6 ⅓ innings, striking out three and only allowing four hits with no earned runs to her name.

Sirmons and Kitchens were not the only seniors who shined as Hadliee Arnold finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate.

Kitchens, Smalley, Bassett and Sheniyah Philpot all had two hits each. Keller, Sirmons and Gracie Baker all had a hit apiece.

The entire Troup offense was rolling as the team outhit the Wildcats 14-5.

This was in stark contrast to when the Tigers were outscored 13-2 and outhit 9-5 on Aug. 24 against the Wildcats.

Troup (10-9) has now won four games in a row and sits at 6-4 in region play. The Tigers will play a non-region game away to Harris County on Saturday.
