The City of LaGrange announced on Tuesday that it will host a Christmas Ball to support local youth.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the city will host the first LaGrange Mayor’s Christmas Ball at the  Oakfuskee Conservation Center. Proceeds from the event will go to support a student scholarship fund.

The event will feature Grammy Award winner Regina Belle singing Christmas favorites as well as her award-winning songs.

Mayor Willie Edmondson suggested the ball to help raise money give back to local youth and promote unity by bringing the community together around the holidays.

The fundraiser will primarily support a scholarship fund for local teens, but younger kids will not be forgotten. Organizers are asking attendees to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. The toys will later be distributed to local children in time for Christmas.

LaGrange Communications Manager Katie Van Schoor said the event will support kids in need and teens who have succeeded in the community.

“We’ll be celebrating unity as we get into the holiday spirit. We’ll have former mayors, former city council members, and current city council members to join in in this celebration and fundraiser and have unity in our community. We’re very excited about this opportunity to try and bring unity while investing in our young people, and our future through this event,” Van Schoor said.

The evening will have something for everyone with food music and fireworks, Edmondson said.

“We’re going to honor every mayor that we’ve had that’s still living, and we’re going to honor every city councilman that we’ve had,” Edmondson said.

“We just want you to come and dress up in your evening gowns and your tuxedos and just come and enjoy the festivities,” Edmondson said.
