Mrs. Ruby “Carol” Carolyn Caldwell, of LaGrange, passed away on September 30, 2023.  She was born in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Hollis Bence and Frances Elizabeth Smith Bence.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Caldwell is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Gordon Caldwell; her sons, Gregory Wayne Caldwell and Steven Lawton Caldwell; her granddaughter named for her, Carolyn Caldwell; and her 7 siblings.

Mrs. Caldwell served our community as a schoolteacher for the entirety of her career, earning her retirement from the Troup County School System.  She began her career at Southside Elementary School and completed her career at Hollis Hand Elementary School.  She received the honor of Teacher of the Year in 1990.  She impacted innumerable young lives throughout her career.

Mrs. Caldwell is survived by her son, Michael Caldwell (Lynda), her 9 grandchildren, and her 14 great-grandchildren. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they make their way through this very challenging time. The funeral service will be held at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until service time on Wednesday.  The committal service will directly follow the funeral and will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.  Pastor Jeff Durand will officiate the service.
