Motorists in southern Troup County can rejoice as the Georgia Department of Transportation has cleared Gabbettville Road to reopen.

County Manager Eric Mosley announced at the start of the commission meeting on Tuesday evening that he had just received info from GDOT that the roadway has opened as of 5:03 p.m.

Gabbettville Road was temporarily closed for repairs at the bridge over Long Cane Creek between 503 and 545 Gabbettville Road between Robert Taylor Road and Sandtown Road.

The road was closed in mid-September after a bridge inspection revealed problems requiring immediate repairs and closure of the bridge.

“We are certainly glad to get that bridge back in business,” Mosley said.

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the area and pay attention to work advisory signs.
