The Troup County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where a woman was shot inside a home in rural Troup County.

The undisclosed adult female victim was shot in the back from bullets fired from outside the home, according to a TCSO press release.

Sunday night about 9:56 p.m., Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 1100 block of New Hutchinson Mill Rd.  in reference to reports of a woman who had been shot.

Deputies arrived and spoke to an adult female, who stated she believed she had been shot in the back. Deputies then confirmed a small gunshot wound near the center of her back.

Witnesses at the scene reported hearing what sounded like firecrackers outside the home and then realized bullets were being shot into the house when the victim was struck by the gunfire.

The victim was taken to a Columbus hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators later located multiple shell casings outside the exterior of the home. A neighbor’s vehicle was also determined to have been struck by gunfire.

No suspects have been identified at this time and this incident is still under active investigation.
