The Callaway football team beat up and battered Towers 47-12 on the road Thursday to earn another region win.

The Cavaliers put the hammer down early, leading 35-0 after the first quarter.

As bright as the offense was, it was the defense that really shined on the night, scoring two touchdowns — both in the first quarter.

Tyrone Fitten got a scoop and score with a shade over 90 seconds left in the first half. Less than 30 seconds off the game clock later, Johnathan Freeman took an interception to the house to put Callaway up 34-0.

The offense was churning in the first quarter as well with Zai Hart rattling off two touchdowns, including one on just the second offensive play of the game for the Cavaliers as he tumbled 25 yards into the end zone.

Backups were deployed rather early for Callaway as the game was truly a breeze for the away team.

Backup quarterback Blake Harrington had his best game as a Cavalier so far, a good sign for the Cavaliers as their star quarterback DeShun Coleman will graduate in the spring.

Harrington ran for a touchdown in the first quarter before tossing a pair of touchdowns to D’Arcy Harris. Both were long touchdown passes of over 30 yards as the sophomore got to show off his arm.

The Cavaliers’ stout defense eventually surrendered points when Towers scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half against the Callaway reserves.

Callaway improved to 4-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will have another important region clash on the road to Eagle’s Landing next Friday.
