There was no rest for the weary as the Troup softball team had only minutes of rest after their stunning 11th inning win over Cairo to prepare for Perry in game one of the super regional championship.
The Tigers stunned Perry 3-0 to force a winner-take-all game two.
Camdyn Bassett take a bow. The junior pitcher, and top-50 pitching prospect, pitched a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings in the most difficult of circumstances. She had just pitched seven innings in the Tigers win over Cairo. She struck out four batters and had a strong defense behind her backing her the whole way. Her no hit bid was broken up with a one-out single in the seventh.
Bassett didn’t just do it from inside the pitcher’s circle, she was equally as good at the plate. It was her two-run single with two outs in the top of the third that broke the deadlock. Madeira Sirmons followed it with a single to drive Bassett all the way home and give Troup a 3-0 lead.
Senior Patience Watkins was simply superb from the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Anna Grace Keller, Sheniyah Philpot, Bassett and Sirmons all had a hit each.
Troup will play Perry in a winner-take-all game after a short rest. The Tigers are one win away for the Elite Eight in Columbus.
