The LaGrange softball team had to look itself in the mirror after a disastrous start against Shaw in an elimination game on Thursday.

The Grangers and early 6–1 hole to beat the Raiders 11-6 and book a spot against Wayne County in the super regional championship.

The Graners let up two runs in the top of the first and another four in the second with only a Hudson Wood RBI ground in between which temporarily stopped the bleeding.

The Grangers kept chipping away and cut the deficit to just three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a one-run triple from Harlee Overton and a one-run single from Abby McGill.

The Grangers offense really started to click in the bottom of the fourth which allowed LaGrange to tie the game, McGill hit a one-run double to get the scoring started followed by an error that allowed McGill to reach home for the second run of the inning.

Another error allowed Ta’Niya Taylor to score and tie the game.

LaGrange was able to capture its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth when an error allowed McGill to score. McGill had a big offensive showing, going 2-for04 with two RBIs and two runs scored from the leadoff spot.

The Grangers got a second run in the inning on another error by the Raider defense. LaGrange kept adding to its lead from there with Tatiana Dudley hitting a one-run single to make it 9-6. Another error and an Overton sacrifice fly allowed LaGrange to take a commanding 11-6 lead.

Kaylee Foster got the start on the mound for the Grangers. She missed the playoffs last year with a knee injury. McKinsey Gaddy and Zoe Thompson pitched the other six innings, not allowing a single run between the pair.

In addition to McGill, Dudley and Overton both had big-time offensive showings with two hits each. Shelby Siggers and Carolyne Garcia had a hit apiece.

The Grangers will play the first game of the super regional championship against Wayne County after a short rest. The Yellow Jackets won their previous matchup in the playoffs 2-1. LaGrange will have to win two straight over the hosts to book a spot in the Elite Eight in Columbus.
