With the weather finally cooling down a bit, another autumn tradition as welcome as football and pumpkin pie returns to Troup County. The annual Quilters Bazaar is set to return next Saturday.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, Pleasant Grove Community Church will host its annual Quilters Bazaar Barbecue and crafts show.

This year marks the 43rd year the church has hosted the annual quilting celebration and fundraiser. The Pleasant Grove quilters hold the event each year to promote fellowship within the community and to show off the goods of local crafters and cooks.

Although the beautiful quilts are the star of the show, the delicious barbecue, homemade soup, Brunswick stew and baked goods have brought back locals every year for decades.

For early risers, sausage and biscuits will be available starting at 8 a.m. Later in the day, visitors can partake in homemade soup, cornbread, barbecue, stew and the quilting crew’s famous fried pies.

Stop by for lunch or just take some barbecue and stew home for dinner or the freezer. Barbecue enthusiasts can also call (770) 713-4564 to reserve a Boston butt for pickup.

Each year the quilters raffle off a handmade quilt with proceeds going to help pay for church endeavors, including missionary work.

Carol Cadenhead, who helps organize the event, said they usually sell thousands of raffle tickets. The tickets are only $1 each and the drawing is held at the end of the show at 2 p.m. The winner does not have to be present to win. The raffle tickets can be purchased at the show or by calling (706) 333-9694.

The annual handmade quilt is often a sought-after prize as each is unique and represents countless hours of work. Even with weekly quilting sessions, the annual quilt takes the group months to complete.

Cadenhead said they will also have an inflatable bounce house for kids and face painting.

The Quilters Bazaar and Barbecue will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Community Church at 170 Pleasant Gove Church Rd. in LaGrange.
