It was a nail-biter between Lafayette Christian and LaGrange Academy on Tuesday night as the Warriors edged out their cross-town rivals 43-37 for the season sweep.

When the Warriors needed her most, senior Anna Beth Kimberley stepped up in a big way. She scored 25 points while grabbing 17 rebounds. Crucially, she scored eight of the Warriors 12 points in the fourth quarter.

She could not be contained on the block and caused whatever defender the Cougars threw at her fits. Kimberley is averaging 25 points through three games and has elevated her game to new heights in her final season on blue and orange.

The Warriors looked like they were in complete control early, taking a 14-5 lead after one, but the Cougars clawed back into it and trimmed the deficit down to just seven heading into the break (21-14).

The Cougars nearly came back in the second half thanks to the heroics of Carmen Bridges. She scored 19 of her 25 points in the second half and pulled the Cougars back from the brink multiple times. She put the team on her back and got the Cougars within a point at the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the rest of the Cougars could only score 4 points combined in the second half.

Leah Ward was second on the team in scoring.

For the Warriors, senior Laura Knight picked up the slack when Kinnersley needed a break and scored 12 points.

The reigning state champion LaGrange Academy Warriors are still undefeated (3-0) on the young season and will be back on the court on Thursday at home to St. George’s.

LCS (1-3) will travel to Trinity Christian of Griffin on Friday.
