The Callaway boys basketball team struggled to find much offense through three quarters before pulling off a late rally that fell just short in their 58-55 season opener loss to region opponent Towers.
When senior point guard DeShun Coleman hit a circus shot late in the fourth quarter to go up 49-47, it felt like the Cavaliers had all the momentum in the world, but it was not to be.

The Cavaliers had a chance at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, but a half-court heave by Torri Truitt fell short.

Truitt did everything and then some to help the Cavalier cause, leading the team with 15 points, including six in the fourth quarter. Coleman also had a big fourth quarter with eight of his 10 points in the last eight minutes of play.

Both offenses struggled to find any traction in the first two quarters as the teams walked to the locker rooms at halftime locked into a 26-26 battle.

The Cavalier offense hit a wall in the third quarter, scoring just seven points, and ended up trailing by nine heading to the fourth quarter.

Treyonn Tucker was the one who really sparked the fourth-quarter rally as he quickly scored six of his eight points early in the fourth quarter.

Callaway (0-1) will travel to play Valley (AL) on Saturday.
