More than $100,000 is missing from Troup County State Court speeding funds, and a police investigation has been launched.

LaGrange Police Chief Garrett Fiveash confirmed that the LaGrange Police Department has been asked to investigate the incident, but the department doesn’t currently believe anyone local is involved.

Fiveash said that the money is missing from a state court account for speeding tickets and similar fines. He said at least $100,000 is unaccounted for, but it could be more.

“Right now ,it’s looking like it was internet fraud,” Fiveash said. “We don’t believe anyone in the [Clerk of Courts] office there was involved.”

The Clerk of Courts office collects traffic citations fines for Troup County Superior Court and state court. Many tickets are available to be settled online.

Clerk of Court Jackie Taylor confirmed that they are working with the bank and police to investigate the missing funds.

The case is still under active investigation, and no further details have been provided at this time.
