It was another dominant victory for the Callaway girls basketball team on Friday as the Cavaliers blew out Landmark Christian 57-39 to stay undefeated on the young season.

The Cavaliers came out with an attitude to start the game and quickly established an 18-7 lead after the opening quarter of play.

Callaway did not get the same play in the second quarter as the Cavaliers were outscored 13-7 and saw their double-digit lead cut to just five points going into the half.

Whatever coach Deyano Martin said to the team at halftime sparked a reenergized effort in the third quarter. The Cavaliers took over the game thanks to the trio of Lacey Thomas, Raniya Mahone, and Keiyunna Maddox. Thomas and Mahone had six points apiece in the quarter and Maddox finished with five.

These three were the offense on Friday night and all finished with exactly 16 points each for the game.

Jailyn Baker chipped in with seven points while Aniyah McFarland and TaKayla Tucker finished with two points apiece to round out the offense for the Cavaliers.

Callaway did not let off the gas in the fourth quarter and sent the War Eagles packing.

Callaway is off to a 4-0 start overall and a 3-0 record in region play. This was a pivotal win for the Cavaliers, who dropped all three games they played against Landmark Christian a year ago which led to them finishing third in the region standings and a first-round road playoff game.

Callaway will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Redan on Saturday.
