After taking their first loss of the season last time out — a seven-point loss to Lakeview — on Tuesday, the LaGrange Grangers were itching to get back to winning ways and did just that on Friday night in front of a festive crowd, hammering Heard County 87-58. It was the second win of the season against their neighbors from the north.
LaGrange set the tone early by scoring the first nine points of the game and kept up that pressure from there eventually building a 24-9 lead after the first quarter thanks to some sharp shooting from outside the arc —three different Grangers connected on a 3-pointer in the first quarter — and multiple lightly/uncontested dunks and layups.
The LaGrange lead quickly swelled to 44-21 heading into halftime.
The Grangers came out of the break continuing to put the pressure on the Braves as their lead expanded to 27 points (63-36) heading to the final quarter of play.
LaGrange used practically its entire bench during the game with 12 different players getting into the scoring column.
Jalen Hardy and BJ Wortham led the Grangers with 13 points apiece. Javon Nelson and J’un Hall put together solid offensive showings with 9 points each. With the way the ball was moving around the court the Grangers did not need somebody to step up and be a dominant scorer on the night.
LaGrange bounced back from its only loss of the season in style to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Grangers will host the Toyota Classic next Thursday and Friday before hosting North Clayton on Jan. 2 for their region opener.
