Ernest departed this life on Jan. 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family and close friends after a battle with dementia. 

He was born on March 6, 1939, in Troup County, Georgia, to the late John Henry Nelson and Mary Lou Lay Nelson.

He joined Canaan Baptist Church, attended East Depot High School, served in the US Army,  and retired from LaGrange Molded Products.

Survivors include his wife, June Nelson; son, Shaun (Erikka) Nelson, Jacksonville, FL;  daughters:  Krystle Nelson, Fairburn, Georgia; Darlene Malone, Brooklyn, NY; Telesa Bankston, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Devita Dean, LaGrange, Georgia; several grandchildren; siblings, Bessie Johnson, LaGrange, Georgia; John H. (Carolyne) Nelson,  Chicago, IL; Cecelia McCoy, Marietta, Georgia; mother in love, Juanita Johnson of Southfield, Michigan; brothers in love, Donald (Annise) Lockhart, Bronx, NY, Dr. Robert (Michelle) Johnson, West Borough, MA; and a host of relatives and very close friends.

The Service will be Monday at 1 P.M. at First Baptist Church Fannin Street.

The excellent care of Mr. Nelson is being provided by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
