It was sweet relief for the Grangers on Saturday as the LaGrange High girls basketball team downed Whitewater 39-22 for just their second win of the season and their first since Nov. 29.

It was total domination for the LaGrange defense, who were especially stingy down the stretch to help the Grangers get some breathing room late in the contest.

It was a sluggish start for the Grangers on the road, struggling to find any sort of offense. LaGrange trailed 6-4 at the end of the first quarter.

An inspired second quarter from the LaGrange offense flipped the script as the Grangers were able to build some momentum and a 16-13 lead at the half.

Neither offense got much traction in the third quarter and the Grangers were only able to stretch their lead out to five points heading to the final quarter.

The final eight minutes is where it all came together for LaGrange, outscoring the home team 18-5 in the fourth quarter.

Madisyn Booker led the offensive charge for LaGrange, totaling 12 points. Ta’Niya Taylor had nine points while Teyana Payne scored eight.

LaGrange (2-7) is now 1-1 in region play. The Grangers will travel to take on Fayette County on Tuesday for another important region matchup.
