The LaGrange boys basketball team outlasted a late Whitewater rally to stay undefeated in region play (3-0) on Saturday. The Grangers withstood a wild comeback attempt to clinch a 60-57 road victory.
Despite holding a 30-18 lead at halftime, the Grangers were made to sweat late. When LaGrange needed a cool head, the team leader, BJ Wortham stepped up. He scored 16 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, including eight of the team’s 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Grangers were in control for the majority for the game as they turned a 12-point halftime lead into a 17-point lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Torrian Reeves and Zai Peagler helped lead the offensive charge with 11 points apiece.
Jalen Fyer hit three 3-pointers, all in the first half, to keep the Wildcat defense on its heels.
LaGrange (12-1) had now won six games in a row. The Grangers will have another crucial region matchup on the road to Fayette County next Tuesday.
