Dickey’s is now open, bringing a Texas brand of barbecue to LaGrange.

On Wednesday, the LaGrange-Troup Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at LaGrange’s newest restaurant, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.

The restaurant officially opened on Monday but celebrated it with a ribbon cutting during lunch service two days later.

The new Dickey’s is located at 1604 Whitesville Street, where the former Rhodes Casual Dining was located. The owner of the property, Mignon Smith and her husband ,partnered with Incremental Global Brands (IGB) to bring a Dickey’s franchise to LaGrange.

Smith said the transition from a bar to a barbecue restaurant was spurred by her now five-month-old daughter.

“I recently adopted a beautiful little girl,” Smith said.

“When I adopted her in August, I knew we couldn’t do the same thing with Rhodes Casual Dining. So we needed to think outside the box to also be able to raise our daughter … If you’re not familiar with Dickey’s. It is a fabulous Texas-based barbecue brand out of Dallas, Texas and we’ve been really excited to partner with them.”

General Manager Farrell Winchester said they have had plenty of initial success, saying they have really been embraced by the community in their first few days.

Winchester is a relative newcomer to LaGrange, hailing from Chicago. He said he is looking forward to meeting and becoming part of the community.

“The Dickey’s mantra is serving legit Texas barbecue. Everything is low and slow. We smoke everything all the way up to our bakers. Those are our baked potatoes. We smoke our wings also. We smoke all of our other proteins so our brisket, our ribs, our pork butt,” Winchester said. “We want to make sure that’s nice and tender every single time.”

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is open for lunch, dinner and everything in between, seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
