It was the Carmen Bridges show on the road Friday as she scored 42 points to lead the Lafayette Christian girls basketball team to a 59-30 win against Praise Academy.
Bridges, the team’s heartbeat, is putting together a sensational senior season with the Cougars, and it culminated in her breaking the school record for points scored in a game.
The Cougars fed Bridges early and often, registering 11 points in both the first and second quarter. In the third quarter, she scored all of the team’s points (8) before closing out with 12 in the final quarter.
She nailed two 3-pointers but the majority of her points came from her muscling her way toward the rim. Not content with just scoring, she also had 16 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and two steals as the senior completely stuffed the stat sheet.
Lafayette Christian built a 20-6 lead after the first quarter, which ballooned up to 35-11 at halftime.
While Bridges did most of the damage, Marta Oria scored 13 and Reagan Bryant scored four points to round out the offense for the Cougars.
LCS has won three of its last four games played to improve to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Cougars will host Central Christian for an important region game against Central Christian next Tuesday. LCS dropped the first matchup between the two teams this season 47-37.
