Ms. Gloria Lavone Dowell Cameron “Boot”, 71, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Ms. Cameron was born July 18, 1952, in LaGrange, Georgia, daughter of the late George Atkinson and Ruby Dowell.  

She was a member of South Park Avenue Church of Christ, LaGrange, Georgia and worked for Mr. and Mrs. Nasor Mansour Sr. for 41 years as their housekeeper.  After her retirement, she worked part time in the cafeteria at LaGrange College where she loved seeing and talking to the students.  She enjoyed working in her yard and cooking for her family and friends.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Annie Mae Dowell, brothers, Ray Dowell and Gary Dowell, and a special cousin, Carrie Allen.

Mrs. Cameron is survived by her loving children, Pamela Dowell, Traci Dowell, Niolette Hanner (Horace), and Kwanza Smith; grandchildren, Kenza Dowell (Amberal), Brian Dowell, Malcolm Dowell (Dorathy), Danielle Dowell, Demetritus Dowell, Diakka Dowell, Dymeshia Dowell, Emory Smith, and Daliah Harris; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, Andy Dowell, Iris Dowell, and George Atkinson Jr.; special friends, Tammy Davis, Fannie Tigner, Patricia Truitt, Linda Johnson, Beverly Bailey, Eddie Johnson, Larry and Susan Mansour, Horace Cole Jr., and Thelon and Pat Hamby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and close friends.

The Celebration of Life service will be 2 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at South Park Avenue Church of Christ with Brother Anthony Hixon officiating. 

 The burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

The gathering of family and friends will be on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange, Georgia.
