It was the perfect senior night for the Cougars as Lafayette Christian ran past Praise Academy 40-15.

The Cougars also had a chance to celebrate their three seniors — Carmen Bridges, Lily Pena and Leah Ward.

It was a tremendous showing for Bridges, who has carried more than her fair share of the offensive load this season. She has been on a tear as of late and tallied 31 points on Thursday.

The defense was consistent all evening for the Cougars, limiting Praise Academy to no more than six points in any quarter and pitching a shutout in the fourth. The offense struggled to match their defensive presence early.

Lafayette Christian was able to put together a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Praise closed the gap to 15-10 heading into halftime.

It looked like anybody’s game after the Cougars could muster only three points in the second quarter. They found an extra gear coming out of the break and blew the game wide open.

By the end of the third quarter, the Cougar lead was up to 17 points. The fourth quarter saw the lead continue to balloon as the suffocating defense of Lafayette Christian barely gave Praise an inch.

Despite it being the Bridges show for the majority of the game, she got some strong help from Marta Oria, who finished with 12 points.

Lafayette Christian has now won six games in a row — the best such winning streak under second-year coach David Curry. The Cougars are now 9-5 on the season and 3-1 in region play. Lafayette Christian will play Trinity Christian of Griffin in the regular season finale next Monday.
