It was all Troup in the Tiger’s Den on Saturday. as they routed crosstown rivals LaGrange 62-30 for an important region victory late in the season.
It was anybody’s contest early with Troup able to put together just a 7-6 lead after the opening quarter of play. From there it was all Tigers.
Troup dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Grangers 23-4 to take a commanding 30-10 lead into halftime.
The LaGrange offense showed signs of life in the second half, but kept stalling out with their best offensive player, Madisyn Booker, in foul trouble. Despite fouling out in the fourth quarter, she led the Grangers with nine points.
Despite Troup’s defense not being as crisp in the final two quarters, the offense kept rolling and the Tigers kept adding to the lead.
After a quiet first quarter with no points, Sheniyah Philpot came to life in the second and ended up scoring a game-high 18 points including three 3-pointers.
Freshman Ma’liyah Gilbert also brought her A game to the table on Saturday and racked up 16 points.
That’s now 10 straight wins for Troup in the rivalry with LaGrange failing to notch a win since 2018.
Troup has now rattled off three wins in a row to improve to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in region play. The Tigers will host Fayette County in the penultimate game of the season on Tuesday before rematching with LaGrange next Friday in the final regular season game for both teams.
LaGrange has hit a rough patch in its season and has dropped four straight to fall to 4-15 overall and 3-9 in region play. The Grangers will host Riverdale on Tuesday.
