The LaGrange boys soccer team kicked off its 2024 season in style on Tuesday, defeating Northside 6-1.
The Grangers were seemingly in complete control from the start and never let their foot off the gas. Elvis Costillo put the Grangers in front just minutes into the game when he latched into a pass from Romans Outland.
It was just the start of a big day for Castillo as he scored three of the team’s goals in the second half to truly start his season off with a bang.
It would not take long for LaGrange to double its lead after Castillo’s opener as Outland dispatched a pass from Kenzo Sato to make it 2-0 just over five minutes into the contest. Senior Luke McSpadden scored 13 minutes from halftime to give the Grangers a dominant 3-0 lead going into the break.
Castillo eventually made it 4-0 13 minutes into the second half, but the Patriots quickly answered just a couple of minutes later with a goal of their own. It looked like Northside was going to grab the lifeline and get back into the game, but LaGrange slammed the door on any chance of that happening with two more goals down the stretch from Castillo to close out the game.
Senior Cade Hollstrom had an assist to his name and bossed the show in the middle of the park.
Lagrange (1-0) will play Vestavia Hills on Friday.
