Sweet relief. After losing four games in a row coming into Tuesday’s contest against Riverdale, the LaGrange girls basketball team was reeling, but they got the monkey off their back with a 42-34 win over the Raiders.

It was a balanced attack from the Grangers who had seven different scorers in the game.

As always, the LaGrange offense started with Madisyn Booker, who led the team with 11 points. She was not alone though as Ta’Niya Taylor finished with 10 points and Ashley Brooks had six on two made 3-pointers.

Defense was the name of the game early and it was LaGrange’s defense that allowed the home team to capture a 9-3 lead after the first quarter. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Grangers could not add on to their lead as it was 15-10 heading into the halftime break.

Both offenses brought a different edge in the second half.  Neither team scored in double figures in either of the quarters in the first half, but both teams were able to score more than 10 points in each. The Grangers just edged out the Raiders in both of the final two quarters to maintain their lead.

LaGrange improved to 5-15 overall and 4-9 in the region. The Grangers will close out the regular season with a home game versus rival Troup on Friday.
