The Callaway girls soccer team kicked off its season with a bang on Thursday, defeating Creekside 5-0.

Autumn Brown unlocked the defense in the opening minute to give the Cavaliers and early 1-0 lead. Brown was not done there, adding a goal in the second minute and an assist in the ninth. Unfortunately, she was subbed out with an injury and did not return to the game.

Senior Mary Kate Baswell, fresh off committing to play soccer at LaGrange College, scored a goal in the ninth and 18th minute while also assisting Brown’s opening goal.

Freshman Sofia Flores got her first start and her first goal for her debut with the Cavaliers.

Freshman Katie Beth Bass made one save to get a clean sheet on her debut.

Callaway will be back in action next Tuesday on the road to Heritage School before hosting its home opener Wednesday against Smiths Station.

The Callaway boys soccer team is off and running with a 3-0 victory over Creekside Friday in their regular season opener.

Jayden Bailey opened the scoring and added the third goal. Between the sophomore’s two goals, senior Greyson Batchelor scored a penalty kick.

Sophomore Bradyen Morris got his first career clean sheet in goal.

Callaway starts off 1-0 and will travel to Heritage next Tuesday and will not have its home opener until Feb. 21 vs Smith Station as part of a doubleheader with the Callaway Middle School boys soccer team.
