The Tigers made short work of LaGrange on Friday, defeating the Grangers 62-31 to complete the regular season sweep.

Troup was dominated from the start just as the team did in the previous matchup with the Grangers last Saturday.

Sheniyah Philpot single handily outscored LaGrange in the first quarter 12-9. That was just the beginning of a big game for the sophomore in hostile territory as she finished with a game-high 25 points.

By the end of the first, Troup had built a commanding 21-9 lead. The Tigers defense had LaGrange’s offense in a straight jacket that they could not escape from all night. The Tigers continued to build on their lead until it was 36-11 at the break.

The Troup offense was not as clinical as they were at the start of the game, but it did not matter as the Tigers continued to add to their lead, which ballooned up to 48-16.

Troup coach Carla Thornton deployed her bench in the fourth, which allowed LaGrange to put points on the board and make the final score a bit more respectable. It was also a shortened fourth period that featured only six minutes of action.

Philpot brought her A-game for Troup, but she was not alone. Freshman Ma’liyah Gilbert was also on her game and tallied 17 points. Raygen Godfrey was the team’s third option on offense and finished with six points.

It was a frustrating evening for the LaGrange offense, who only had Ta’Niya Taylor finish in double figures scoring with 11 points. Madisyn Booker scored seven points, but was quiet by her standards.

Troup finished the regular season 11-13 overall and 6-8 in region play. The Tigers will finish fifth in the region and play North Clayton next week in the region tournament with a spot in the state playoffs on the line.

The Grangers fell to 5-16 overall and 4-10 in region play to end their regular season. LaGrange will enter the region tournament as the sixth seed and play Trinity Christian in the first round.
