It was all Callaway at home in the opening round of the Region 5-2A on Monday as the one-seeded Cavaliers routed Towers 56-25.

With a spot in the playoffs on the line, the Cavaliers locked in early, taking a 25-5 lead after the opening quarter and never looking back. 

Not satisfied with the lead, the Cavaliers continued to press the pace in the second quarter. By halftime, Callaway had built a 44-7 lead.

The Cavaliers starters got some much needed rest in the second half after coming off back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. This allowed Towers to outscore Callaway in the second half and make the final score line look slightly more respectable.

It was a balanced diet for the Callaway offense with 10 total players scoring in the game.

Unsurprisingly, it was senior center Lacey Thomas who did the most damage for the Callaway offense. Thomas tallied 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and two blocked shots.

Fellow senior Keiyunna Maddox may have only scored six points, but she had her fingerprints all over the game with six steals, four assists and two rebounds.

Jailyn Baker finished with 10 points including two made 3-pointers. Raniya Mahone finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

Callaway (22-3) has now won four games in a row and are building momentum. The Cavaliers have clinched a playoff berth and will be hungry for more than that when they travel to ELCA on Thursday to play either McNair or ELCA at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will play for the region title.
