After a tough weekend that saw the team take two one-goal losses against 7A powerhouses Vestavia Hills and Florence, the Grangers got back to winning ways on Tuesday with a 5-1 win over St. Anne-Pacelli.

It was sweet relief for the LaGrange boys soccer team as they had dropped games against the Vikings in each of the last three seasons.

Freshman Elvis Castillo is off to a blazing start for LaGrange. He scored a hat trick on Tuesday to move him to nine goals scored in LaGrange’s first four games.

Elvis broke the deadlock just a shade over 10 minutes into the game and the Grangers were off and running from there. It looked like LaGrange had doubled its lead just five minutes later, but a penalty kick scored by Cade Hollstrom was called back for a Granger encroaching into the penalty box before the kick took place.

Lagrange eventually doubled its lead when Romans Outland dispatched a pass from Anthony Castillo just over halfway through the first half.

LaGrange added a third before halftime when Elvis got his second of the night on an assist from Hollstrom.

The second half saw the majority of play going in one direction once again and LaGrange was able to score its fourth goal of the game nine minutes into the second half.

The Vikings got a scrappy goal with 16 minutes left, but could never find a second to get a lifeline.

The Grangers pushed forward any chance they could get and finished the Vikings off when Elvis capped off his hat trick with under a minute to go in the game, slamming home a pass from his older brother Anthony.

LaGrange improved to 2-2 on the season with Tuesday’s victory. The Grangers will get a chance to evaluate their early performances before taking on McIntosh at home on Feb. 27.
