Raymond Yancey “Teeny” Smith Sr. of LaGrange died Saturday, Feb. 10, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange. He was 91. 

Mr. Smith was born in City-County Hospital in LaGrange on April 4, 1932, to parents Bob Yancey and Sara Evelyn Cadenhead Smith. He was raised in and lived his entire life in Troup County’s Pleasant Grove community where he ran a dairy farm for 32 years. 

Mr. Smith was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Community Church where he served on the Administrative Council and as a trustee and sang in the choir. He was the longest living member of the church. 

Mr. Smith served on the Board of Directors of Troup County Farm Bureau and was a founding member of the Traveler’s Association, a group of 12 with whom he traveled to the Daytona 500 and NASCAR races at Talladega every year for three decades. 

Known for having a great sense of humor, Mr. Smith loved sharing stories and took joy in making others laugh. His own laughter was infectious. He was devoted to his family, his church and, for many years, his Holstein cows. 

Mr. Smith is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Reba Louise Laster Smith; sons Raymond Yancey Smith Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Kenneth Alan Smith and his wife Beth, Phillip Barry Smith and his wife Lynn; daughter Cynthia Louise Smith Cater and her husband Bob; grandchildren, Brittany Comerford (Matt), Heather Thompson (Jon), Ashley Vaughn (Chase), Emily Highnote (John), Sally Cargo (Hace), Mary Beth Scott (Toby), Brannon Smith (Liz), Will Smith (Alex), John Cater, Chloe Cater and Zach Cater; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Logan, Luke, Lila, Abby, Carson, Charlie, Blakely, Bradley, Brynlee, Ida, Darcy, Quincy, Smith, Sam, Sally Jane, Clifton, Mac and Beckett; nephews, nieces and a host of extended family members and dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sylbra Evelyn Smith Joiner, and his brother Bob Jackson Smith. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at 2 P.M. at the Pleasant Grove Community Church with Pastor Chad Hill, Pastor Steve Evans, Pastor Larry Byrd and Rusty Creel officiating.  

Interment will follow at the Talley Family Cemetery. 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church beginning at 1 P.M. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be John Cater, Zach Cater, Will Smith, Brannon Smith, Luke Comerford, Logan Comerford and Carson Thompson. 

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Pleasant Grove Community Church.
