The Cougars season came to a heartbreaking conclusion on Thursday. The senior-laden Lafayette Christian girls basketball team fell to Unity Christian 61-28. on the road in the second round of the state playoffs.

The Cougars were put to the sword early and ended up trailing 20-6 after the first quarter. It did not get better from there for the road team as Lafayette Christian was down 34-10 at halftime.

Senior star Carmen Bridges started to get going in the second half and subsequently the team too. She scored 16 of the team’s 18 points in the second half. Bridges had 20 total points in what would be the final game in her career as a Cougar.

Marta Oria was the only other Cougar to get in the scoring column on Thursday, finishing with eight points.

It was a remarkable turnaround this year for the Cougars as they finished the year 11-7 with a trip to the second round of the state playoffs, a year after going 3-12 and not sniffing a playoff appearance.
