Callaway is heading to the region championship. The Cavaliers brushed aside McNair 62-25 on Thursday to book a spot in the region championship and a home playoff game.

It was all Callaway from the off with the defense dominating the opening period. The Cavaliers surrendered just one point which allowed them to capture a 14-1 lead after the opening eight minutes of play.

Callaway was not able to get any separation in the second as the Mustangs were able to edge out the Cavaliers in the second. It was still a 27-15 lead for Callaway at the break, however.

The third quarter was dominated by the senior partnership of Lacey Thomas and Keiyunna Maddox. Thomas, the starting center, dominated down low and Maddox, the starting point guard, sliced and diced the defense as Callaway outscored McNair 29-6 in the third to put the game to bed. Thomas scored 12 of her game-high 20 points while Maddox had eight of her 12 in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was brief as the game was no longer in doubt.

Takayla Tucker kept the offense humming in the first half, scoring all eight of her points in the opening two quarters.

Callaway will play Columbia at 7 p.m. at ELCA on Friday with a region championship on the line. The teams split the two regular season matchups against each other.
