Troup’s hopes of playing for a region title and hosting a state playoff game were dashed on Thursday as the Tigers were carved up by powerhouse Fayette County 55-33.

Offense was tough sledding for the Tigers all night and it started from the offset.

Despite the early offensive struggles, Troup was able to keep the game close and trailed just 11-7 heading to the second quarter. Unfortunately, the offense plummeted in the second and the Tigers ended up trailing 26-11 heading into halftime.

Troup’s offense came out firing in the third quarter, but every time the Tigers closed the gap Fayette County had an answer. The deficit ended up growing to 20 points heading to the fourth despite the Tigers having their best offensive quarter of the game in the third.

The game was out of hand in the fourth quarter as the outcome was in little doubt before the final buzzer rang.

Ma’liyah Gilbert was the main source of offense for Troup and finished with 15 points. The next highest scorer was Nasha Daniels with six points. Sheniyah Philpot, Mia Wortham and Raygen Godfrey all had four points apiece to round out the offense for Troup.

Troup has already earned a playoff spot but will play Friday in the third-place game to decide seeding in the state playoffs against Trinity Christian at 4 p.m. at home.
