The Callaway baseball had no issues on Thursday as they swept a doubleheader against Columbia to improve to over .500 for the first time this season.

Game one was a cakewalk for the Cavaliers, who took a 10-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back.

It was extra-base hits galore as Callaway racked up nine in total including triples from Wesley Williams and Slade Hunt. Bryce Hubbard almost had himself a homer in the first inning, but cannoned a double off the wall.

Hubbard drove in three runs in the game as did Luke Taylor.

Hubbard, Hunt, Brantin Swanson, and Vince Williams all had two hits each in the game. Taylor and Hunter Brown had one apiece.

Brown also pitched the final inning for the Cavaliers, striking out two and completing the no-hitter for the Cavs.

The game lasted all of 3 innings as the Cavaliers added four more runs in the second and the run that triggered the mercy rule in the bottom of the third.

Game two went even more swimmingly for the Cavaliers as they routed Columbia 17-0 in just three innings of play.

The Cavaliers took little time to get on the board, scoring one on a ground out by Hubbard in the top of the first inning. The Cavaliers tacked on nine more runs in the second and seven in the third to put the game to bed early.

Hubbard was a force on offense for Callaway, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor also had a big game offensively for the Cavaliers, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Lashun Gates also had two hits in the game while Swanson, Brown, Julian Dukes and Vince Williams all had a hit each.

Wesley Williams was outstanding on the mound, striking out eight of the 11 batters he faced, and did not allow a single hit in three innings.

Callaway now sits at 3-2 on the season and has won all three games in the last two days. The Cavaliers will look to make it four wins in a row on Friday when they travel to Mundy’s Mill.
