The LaGrange City Council officially appointed Patrick Bowie city manager at Tuesday’s regular city council meeting on Feb. 27.

Bowie was named the sole finalist for the position at the last city council meeting on Feb. 12. Georgia law requires the city council to wait 14 days between naming a sole finalist and making the official appointment.

“The city council believes Patrick is the best candidate. He has the experience of running utilities for decades and he is extremely qualified to run the city,” said Mayor Pro Tem Quay Boddie. “We have a lot of respect for Patrick and know he will do a great job.”

Bowie began working with the city of LaGrange on Aug. 22, 1988, as the assistant director of utilities. He was promoted to director of utilities in July 1992. In this capacity, he oversaw the water, sewer, natural gas and electric utility divisions, as well as customer service and the Utility Service Center. Before coming to LaGrange, Bowie was employed as a System Engineer for the Potomac Electric Power Company in Bethesda, Maryland.

Bowie received his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Florida in 1986 and his MBA from LaGrange College in 1998, and is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Georgia. He has served on the Board of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG) since 1998 and was chairman from 2005-2007. Previously, he served on the American Public Gas Association Board of Directors (1999-2005), New Ventures Board of Directors (2000-2005), Georgia Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium (2013-present and Chairman in 2014 and 2021), and the Middle Chattahoochee Water Council (2021-present). Bowie is married to Lori Bowie. They have two daughters, Sara and Becca, and two grandchildren, Bo and Ellie.
