The Tigers are finding their form. The Troup baseball team had a bit of a rough start to the season, but a young Tiger squad is finding its footing as they have now won four straight games with Thursday’s 14-4 win over Columbus.

Troup set the tone early in the game on Thursday, putting seven runs past the Blue Devils in the opening inning to take a commanding early lead.

Chase Mosley got the Tigers on the board with a one-run single. Mosley eventually found home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. David Moncus drove in the next two runs with a double. Ethan Hunt and Garrison Edwards took back-to-back bases-loaded walks to extend the lead out to six runs. Brady Willis scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Columbus got on the board with a run in the top of the second, but Troup’s offense kept rolling. The Tigers added two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-1 lead. Mosley and Carson Walker both scored on wild pitches in the inning.

The Blue Devils chipped into the lead with a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

The Tigers made it a 10-4 game in the bottom of the fifth when Mosley scored on an error.

Troup scored the final four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game by mercy rule. Moncus scored on an error for the opening run of the inning. Willis hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the second. Edwards drove home the third with a single and Mosley grounded out to drive in the clinching run.

It was a strong showing from Mosley all night as he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Moncus also had a strong showing with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Edwards, Walker and Hunt all had a hit apiece.

Jake Perry got the start on the mound for Troup, pitching a strong three innings in which he allowed just three hits on six strikeouts. Tripp Cummings pitched the fourth and fifth innings before making way for Demetrius Hardnett, who pitched the final inning for the Tigers.

Troup (6-5) is now over .500 for the first time this season courtesy of the four-game winning streak. The Tigers will host Valley (AL) on Monday in what should be a good game — Troup lost the first matchup between the teams 3-2 last month.
