The race for LaGrange mayor and LaGrange City Council are starting to take shape.

On the first day of qualifying Monday, three qualified for mayor.

Former District 1 Councilmember Jim Arrington, Racial Trustbuilding executive director Chalton Askew and CEO of Nonprofit Global Experts Israel Barsh all qualified for the mayor’s race Monday.

Arrington resigned his council seat in February and announced his intention to run for mayor after the death of former LaGrange Mayor Willie Edmondson.

In the race for the District 1 seat, two candidates qualified Monday — banker Forrest Johnson and home builder Darby Pippin.

Qualifying continues through Wednesday.

The primary elections will be held May 21.
