Two people were killed, and three seriously injured, after a drag race on Antioch Road Sunday night that resulted in a wreck, according to information from the Georgia State Patrol and Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley.

A Chevrolet S-10 was drag racing another vehicle on Antioch Road, lost control of the vehicle and struck a Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, with four spectators, according to GSP. The GSP report notes four injured and one killed, but Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley has identified two deceased — Cory Maddox, 42, and Matalito Bass, 47.

It’s unclear in the initial report who was driving the S-10. Hackley said three additional patients were transported to trauma centers with serious injuries.

The driver of the S-10 was pronounced deceased at the West Georgia Medical Center.

The Georgia State Patrols Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is assisting with this investigation.

The second vehicle involved in the drag race left the scene and has not been identified.
