After a busy first day of qualifying in the LaGrange mayor and city council race, no new candidates qualified on Tuesday. Qualifying ends Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

As of Tuesday evening, that leaves three qualified for mayor.

Former District 1 Council member Jim Arrington, Racial Trustbuilding executive director Chalton Askew and CEO of Nonprofit Global Experts Israel Barsh all qualified for the mayor’s race Monday. Arrington resigned his council seat in February and announced his intention to run for mayor after the death of former LaGrange Mayor Willie Edmondson.

In the race for the District 1 seat, two candidates qualified Monday — banker Forrest Johnson and home builder Darby Pippin. The primary elections will be held May 21.
