It was a neighborly showdown at Troup High on Thursday as the Tigers and Lafayette Christian met on the baseball diamond. It was Troup who came out on top with an 8-0 victory.

It did not take long for the Tigers to open the scoring with Davis Moncus hitting a double that scored a run in the bottom of the first. A batter later Ethan Goff doubled the Tigers’ advantage with a sacrifice fly.

Troup fully blew the game open in the second with five runs. Parker Townsend scored on a ball before Fisher Baltzell and Moncus each hit two-run homers to make it 7-0.

Troup added an eighth and final run in the sixth inning when Courtney Wilson hit a one-run single.

Moncus continued his strong freshman season by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Torreion Delaney, Baltzell and Wilson all had a hit apiece for the Tigers.

Goff got the start on the mound and pitched a dominant three innings, striking out three and allowing just two hits. Baltzell pitched the next two innings, allowing one hit on three strikeouts. Chase Mosley pitched the final two innings and struck out five batters while allowing no hits.

Paul Batistini got the start on the mound for the Cougars and pitched five innings before making way for David Karvelas.

Karvelas, Batistini, and Matt Latour all had a hit each for the Cougars.

Troup is now back above .500 and sits at 9-8 overall and 1-3 in region play. The Tigers will be on the road to Pike County on Friday for another non-region matchup.

Lafayette Christian fell back to .500 (6-6) on the season. The Cougars will host Trinity Christian of Griffin on Friday.
