Fire damages home on Wright Street in LaGrange

Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused a blaze inside an unoccupied home over the weekend.

Around 8:38 p.m., Sunday, March 24, firefighters with the LaGrange Fire Department and Troup County Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at a single-story wood frame, single-family dwelling in the 100 block of Wright Street.

The initial report indicated flames and smoke were visible outside of the residence.

LFD and TCFD arrived to find heavy smoke with visible flames. After circling the residence, LFD Fire Engine 4 crew aggressively attacked the fire by entering through the front door as other units arrived and assisted with the search of the structure.

It was determined that no occupants were inside the home and the fire was extinguished and brought under control by 9:10 p.m.

According to LFD, the home was valued at approximately $47,000. An estimated $9,500 worth of property damage was caused by the fire and smoke.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
