After a tough loss in the region championship last time out, the Callaway girls soccer team rebounded in a big way on Thursday. The Cavaliers traveled to take on North Springs and had to dig deep to pull off a 2-1 comeback win.

The game did not start well for the Cavaliers at all as they surrendered a goal in the 11th minute of play. A sloppy first half saw Callaway trailing 1-0 at the halftime break.

The team turned it around in the second half and it all started with an own goal from the Spartans in the 52nd minute which was forced by senior Aylin Ulloa. It was truly Ulloa’s night as she delivered the winning goal just nine minutes later.

It was a combined effort in goal for the Cavaliers as Katie Beth Bass made seven saves and Alayna Leithleiter made one to ensure it was Callaway who was victorious on the evening.

Assistant coach Jeff McGuffin was not pleased with the performance and said the team looked lethargic with an eye on spring break.

Callaway improved to 10-5 overall. The Cavaliers have already wrapped region play, finishing second in Region 5-2A to earn a home game in the opening round of the state playoffs.
