Baltzell hits for cycle as Troup sweeps Fayette County

It was an easy day for the Troup baseball team on the road Friday as the Tigers swept a doubleheader against Fayette County. 

 

GAME ONE:

TROUP – 19

FAYETTE COUNTY – 0

It was an easy day at the office in game one as Troup scored four runs in the first and two more in the second to take a commanding early lead. The Tigers added four more in the fourth and nine in the fifth to close out the game by mercy rule.

Fisher Baltzell was sensational as he hit for the cycle including a two-run homer in the fifth and final inning to get it done. In total, he went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs scored. 

He was far from the only Tiger who had a big day from the plate as sophomore Garrison Edwards was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Torreion Delaney was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. 

Demetrius Hardnett and Chase Mosley had two hits apiece while Davis Moncus and Carson Walker registered one hit each.

Hadnett got the start on the mound and dominated his four innings of work, allowing a lone hit on seven strikeouts. Kaleb Woodson pitched the final inning and struck out two batters.

 

GAME TWO:

TROUP – 15

FAYETTE COUNTY – 0 

The Tigers found game two to be even more of a breeze as they finished the game off in just 2.5 innings. Troup scored nine runs in the first and six more in the second to earn the sweep on Friday.

Errors and mistakes plagued Fayette County and Troup was quick to capitalize. Fayette County committed five errors while allowing just five hits.

Delaney led the offense i game two by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Moncus, Hardnett and Carson Spears all had a hit apiece.  

Moncus got the start on the mound and pitched a three-inning no-hitter, striking out eight in the process.

Troup has now won five games in a row to improve to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in region play. The Tigers will be back on the diamond on April 6 against Central (Phenix City).
