The Callaway baseball team made a trip to Florida for a tournament this week and kicked it off with a 5-0 win over Blountstown.

The Cavaliers enjoyed the beach breeze to start the game, putting two runs up in the first inning. Julian Dukes hit a sacrifice fly that drove in one and an error quickly made it 2-0 Cavaliers.

Callaway added to its lead with a run in the second when Wesley Williams scored on an error.

The Cavaliers were not done there as an error in the fourth led to Brantin Swanson reaching home.

Callaway scored its fifth and final run in the sixth when Cass Fuller bunted into a fielder’s choice that allowed Williams to score his second run of the game.

Blake Harrington was absolutely sensational on the mound, pitching a one-hitter. The most impressive part of his showing was the fact that he struck out a whopping 15 batters in his complete-game victory.

The offense was not quite as crisp for Callaway, but the Cavaliers got just enough timely hits to come away with the win.

Bryce Hubbard led the way, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Swanson and Williams had a hit apiece for the Cavaliers.

While the offense only generated four hits, they were able to take eight walks which contributed to the win.

Callaway is now 15-5 on the season. The Cavaliers have already wrapped region play and will host a number of tune-up games before the playoffs. Callaway will play the host of the tournament, Port St. Joe, on Friday.
