LaGrange will not make three straight trips to the 4A state championship series. The Grangers saw their season come to an end in the second round of the playoffs, getting swept by Wayne County. It was a tough ending to the season after falling just one game short of a state championship last year.

 

GAME TWO:

LAGRANGE – 0

WAYNE COUNTY – 8

 

The Grangers fell behind early and could never quite recover with their backs against the wall. The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the top of the second and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Wayne County was not done there, tacking on four more runs in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 7-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets added an eighth unanswered run in the top of the sixth inning.

Offense was an absolute struggle for the Grangers as the team could muster just three hits total in game two. Gryson Cockrell, Grady Westmoreland and Mason Calhoun all had a hit each.

Junior Caden Wood started on the mound for LaGrange but got little help from his defense behind him as only two of the seven runs he allowed were earned. Calhoun replaced Wood on the mound and pitched an inning and change. Kayden Sutton closed the game out on the mound for LaGrange.

 

GAME ONE: 

LAGRANGE – 3

WAYNE COUNTY – 4

 

Game one came down to the wire, but LaGrange could not find a late run to tie the game. 

The Yellow Jackets took an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. LaGrange was undeterred and tied the game up with a run in the top of the second.

Brandon Bennett hit a single that drove home a run to level the game.

The Yellow Jackets retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. 

The Grangers chipped into the lead, but could never find the tying run. LaGrange got two runs back in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Mason Calhoun RBI double and a Bennett one-run single.

Those two runs cut the deficit to just one. LaGrange got the tying run to third base in the top of the fifth, but could not bring him home. That would be as close as the Grangers would get to pulling off a rally in game one.

Bennett led the offensive charge, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Grady Westmoreland had two hits while Calhoun and Jackson Bozeman had one apiece.

Robbie Parker pitched a six-inning complete game for the Grangers, allowing nine hits and three earned runs on five strikeouts.
