Erin Hackley has won in the Republican candidate primaries for Troup County coroner. With the results in at 4,088 votes at the time of publishing, the citizens of the county have spoken. Hackley and Clay Bryant were the two Republican candidates, and no other candidates qualified for the race.

Hackley, the incumbent coroner, served as the county’s coroner for the past term. Before running, she was the deputy coroner for the former coroner. Bryant had 3,305 votes at the time of publishing.

“I am humbled that the people of LaGrange trust me to help them in their time of grief,” Hackley said. “I look forward to serving them for another four years.”

Bryant, the challenger, is a former Georgia State Trooper and police chief for Hogansville. 

Hackley will be running unopposed in the November election. Unless an independent candidate qualifies before the November election, this vote will decide the county’s new coroner. 

At this point in the race, Hackley said that her first focus is preventative measures and transparency within the community. Hackley said her goal has always been to protect the families during their time of grief.

“We’re going to start doing some sort of proactive [measures] to help get these fentanyl deaths under control,” Hackley said. 

Hackley thanked the voters for their support during the election.
