Two members of the LaGrange Kiwanis Club were married in a ceremony during the club’s normal weekly meeting on Thursday at Highland Country Club.

Club President Eric Davenport and Tasha Hubbard gave their wedding vows in front of their fellow Kiwanis during their regular weekly lunch meeting.

For Davenport, having the ceremony at the club just made sense. He said they met at Kiwanis and began dating in June of last year.

“I’m the president. And she’s the first lady. So why not?” Davenport said.

Davenport said as president he is responsible for programming the meeting topics for the month of May, so he took the opportunity to share the couple’s wedding day with the club.

Davenport is retired from the U.S. Navy and serves on the Troup County Board of Elections and Registration. Hubbard is a longtime member of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and currently serves as the department’s Purchasing/Accounting Coordinator.

It was longtime friend and sheriff’s office coworker Capt. Nathan Taylor who introduced the two at a Kiwanis meeting that sparked the romance. Taylor actually ended up walking Hubbard down the aisle on Thursday in place of her sons, who were late to the ceremony.

As for the honeymoon, the couple is planning to wait a bit. They have had a trip planned for Tasha’s birthday in September to Paris, so the couple is planning that as their honeymoon.

After the nuptials, the couple were all smiles, sharing their wedding — and cake — with fellow Kiwianis.

Hubbard said she felt amazing after tying the knot and she is excited for the future.

“I’m excited. Now I’m ready for my new journey,” she said.
