Erin Hackley has won in the Republican candidate primaries for Troup County coroner with 4190 votes or 55.2%.

“I am humbled that the people of LaGrange trust me to help them in their time of grief,” Hackley said after the election on Tuesday night. “I look forward to serving them for another four years.”

Hackley and Clay Bryant were the two Republican candidates, and no other candidates qualified for the race.

Hackley, the incumbent coroner, served as the county’s coroner for the past term. Before running, she was the deputy coroner for the former coroner. Bryant received 3401 votes or 44.80%.

“Congratulations to Erin Hackley,” Bryant said later to the LDN. “She ran a strong race and she earned it.”

When asked what’s next for him, Bryant said he plans to continue finding opportunities to be involved in the community.

“I ain’t ready to sit at home yet,” he said.

After the race, Hackley said that her first focus will be on preventative measures and transparency within the community. Hackley said her goal has always been to protect the families during their time of grief.

“We’re going to start doing some sort of proactive [measures] to help get these fentanyl deaths under control,” Hackley said on Tuesday.

Hackley gave her appreciation for the voters of the city of LaGrange.
